UN launches vaccination, nutrition drive for Children in Gaza
UN spokesperson Farhan Haq said, “Today, UN agencies announced the launch of an integrated catch-up campaign for routine immunization, nutrition and growth monitoring, targeting 44,000 children who've been cut off from life-saving services due to the war.” He added that UNICEF, UNRWA, and the World Health Organization will implement the program in coordination with Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
The campaign will provide children with three doses of pentavalent, polio, rota, and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, as well as two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine. The first of three planned rounds begins this Sunday and will run for ten days.
Vaccinations will take place at nearly 150 health centers and 10 mobile clinics across the territory.
Haq noted that all necessary vaccines, syringes, cold chain equipment, and nutrition supplies have already been delivered, and over 450 health workers, support staff, and nearly 150 doctors have been trained for the campaign. He emphasized that its success depends on full adherence to the ceasefire, allowing families and humanitarian workers safe access to vaccination sites.
While the humanitarian effort is expanding, Haq warned that obstacles such as limited border crossings, congested roads, and other restrictions continue to hamper aid delivery.
